Devices & Browsers

Phone OBS Link runs in a mobile browser; there is no separate camera app to install.

Current Mobile Targets

  • Recent iPhones and iPads using Safari.
  • Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones using Chrome.
  • Other modern Android devices with camera access and WebRTC support in Chrome.

Browser and hardware support varies. Test your exact phone before an important broadcast.

Required Permissions

  • Camera permission is required to send video.
  • Microphone permission is required when sending audio.
  • No location permission is requested.
  • Camera and microphone access begin only after you press Start Camera and approve the browser prompt.

Hardware-Dependent Features

Flashlight, camera switching, zoom, orientation lock, wake lock, microphone selection, fullscreen, and picture-in-picture depend on the phone and browser. Unsupported controls are hidden or unavailable.

On iPhone and iPad, Safari may suspend camera capture when it is backgrounded or the screen locks.

Latency & Connection Behavior

Live performance is measured continuously, but no single latency number can describe every mobile network.

How Video Travels

The phone and OBS use WebRTC. The connection prefers a direct route and automatically uses an authenticated relay when a carrier, router, or firewall prevents a direct path.

What Changes Delay

  • Phone processing power and temperature.
  • Wi-Fi or cellular upload quality.
  • Whether the connection is direct or relayed.
  • Distance to the OBS computer or relay.
  • OBS computer load and Browser Source rendering.

What You Can Monitor

The sender and dashboard report route, resolution, bitrate, frame rate, round-trip time, and packet loss. Round-trip time is a network-health measurement, not a promise of total glass-to-glass video delay.

Network RecoveryThe camera rebuilds its connection after Wi-Fi or cellular changes and after sustained quality problems. A network switch may still cause a brief interruption.

Data Usage

Your selected quality controls the video bitrate target. The connection may send less when bandwidth is limited.

Data SaverUp to 1.2 Mbps

About 0.54 GB of video per hour.

BalancedUp to 3 Mbps

About 1.35 GB of video per hour.

High QualityUp to 6 Mbps

About 2.7 GB of video per hour.

These are approximate video-only equivalents calculated from the configured bitrate limits. Audio, signaling, retransmissions, and network overhead use additional data. The phone uploads the stream and the OBS computer downloads it; mobile carriers may count either direction according to their plans.

Privacy & Security

The service transports a live camera feed; it is not a cloud video recorder.

Camera Footage

  • Phone OBS Link does not record or save camera footage.
  • WebRTC protects media while it travels between the phone and OBS.
  • A relay may forward encrypted media packets when a direct connection is unavailable.

Information We Keep

  • Account profile and service-access information.
  • Camera-source names and connection credentials.
  • Payment references and purchase history.
  • Recent connection telemetry used to show stream health.

Protect Your Links

Phone and OBS URLs contain bearer credentials. Anyone with a valid URL may use its assigned role. Keep links private, blur them on screen, and rotate a link if it was shared accidentally.

Connected-platform OAuth tokens are encrypted before persistent storage and are not returned in customer or administration API responses.

Private Beta

The service has not yet completed an independent security audit or sustained public load test. Use a rehearsal before relying on it for a major broadcast.
